Why Blank Pages Don't Create Clarity

Have you ever heard of the phrase Illusion of freedom?

To me, it means full of possibility. A clean slate. Open. Limitless.

And sometimes those very things cause you to stall.

Possibility without direction is just potential energy and the last thing anyone wants to wonder is what if?.  

Blank journals promise freedom. You can write anything. Think anything. Become anything. Powerful but also intimidating if you're not used to letting your words become your refuge. 

Most people don't struggle with expression. They struggle with direction. When the page asks nothing of you it rarely gives anything back. 

Freedom without structure often becomes avoidance. 

Most capable people aren’t stuck because they lack intelligence. They’re stuck because their thinking has no container. When your thoughts live everywhere like in your notes apps, in conversations between you and your favorite friend, or constant rerun in your head things start to get a little foggy.  

A blank notebook is good for recording your life.

A structured journal directs it.

The difference is subtle but the outcome isn't.

Clarity is designed. 

Not all pages are equal.

Some are designed to change you.
